The Fila de Sao Miguel or Fila de Saint Miguel is an ancient breed native to Portugal and more precisely to the island of Saint Miguel, from which it takes its name.

Not very widespread outside its region of origin, this breed is said to be the result of several crosses of shepherd dogs, exclusively used to guard herds of cows in the mountains, which earned it the nickname of "cow dog" on its native Azores island. Recognized provisionally by the International Cynological Federation on March 10, 1995, its definitive recognition will take place 12 years later, on May 21, 2007, the last update of the official standard in force was published on May 21, 2007.

The Fila de Sao Miguel's morphology is homogeneous and balanced, its body is slightly longer than it is tall, fitting into a rectangle. The Fila de Sao Miguel is a strong and powerful muscular dog. The breed is robust by nature and has a hardy temperament that allows it to adapt easily to all kinds of climates and terrain.

Its morphological structure is composed of a broad chest, a deep chest and a slightly raised belly, all associated with a thick bone structure. His back is straight, broad and stocky, his head is massive, always in proportion to the rest of his anatomy.
